Claude Desktop
Claude Desktop cannot replace its chat model API endpoint through `claude_desktop_config.json`. That file configures local MCP servers, not custom model providers.

Official account and plan requirements
Claude Desktop requires an official Anthropic account. The Free plan can use the desktop app with limited usage; a paid Pro, Max, Team, or Enterprise plan is not required to install or sign in.
Native Claude Desktop chats use the service attached to that Anthropic account. ApiHub Keys cannot replace or pay for that usage.
Confirm the capability boundary
Do not put an ApiHub Base URL or API Key in claude_desktop_config.json; it will not route Claude Desktop chat requests through ApiHub.
Choose a supported client
Use Claude Code directly for Anthropic Compatible access; Cherry Studio is not required. For a graphical desktop interface, choose Cherry Studio or another client that supports custom API providers.
Verification
- The ApiHub Key is not stored in Claude Desktop MCP configuration.
Common Errors
- Treating MCP server configuration as model-provider configuration.
